In 1858, Charles Darwin was a scientist who had a peaceful life at Down House in Kent. The biologist was not yet at the focus of the debate, his "big book on species' was still manuscript on the table. For over 20 years he had been accumulating material for the book, thinking on the issues that came up and trying to reach a satisfactory conclusion. It seemed that the publication of this manuscript would never arrive because of the numerous delays due to his inherent caution and desire that his surprising theory of evolution was correct. At this point begins the last volume of Janet Browne's biography, beginning with the extraordinary events that finally forced the publication of The Origin of Species, what resulted in the arrival of years of fame and controversy.
