It is like we said?

During the time that you have been travelling to the Galapagos Islands, enjoying good temperatures and beaches very different from the ones we have in Lanashuaia, we have continued here.

What happened during this time?

We have not stopped. Our problems with the wind have continued: although, from time to time, we had good weather (even two days of sun!). Just tell you that some steel structures of the excavation tent have been deformed by the effect of the constant wind pressure. And also, that some trees from the forest where our base camp is, have fallen down (but none over our sleeping tents … keep fingers crossed).

The excavation is progressing: we are working on a line of 6x2m that covers the outside of the shellmidden and also the area where the interior of the Yamana tent was (called Akar). So, we are excavating the exterior of a house, the accumulation of waste around, and also the interior of the house. If you add these 12 square meters to the ones excavated last December and January (you have missed the "removal" of the entire tent) plus 6 meters excavated last January 2009, 28 square meters excavated at the moment. It's a lot if you consider how big an Akar can become, but very little if we want to recognize how human activities where articulated. We belong basically to an urban society. But other social groups developed most of their existence outside the areas of habitat.

What we find, inside and outside?

Activities. Fossilized. Reflected in the materials and in their position in space. The present January some representative areas have appeared on the outside perimeter of the Akar. Not far away, another non-finished arrowhead appeared. And a few meters further North, at the base of the shellmidden, mixed with some fish remains, seabirds, sea lions, another piece of whalebone! So, although this bone has not been yet analyzed in the laboratory (and therefore we do not know if it is a minke whale), it seems that our hypothesis is correct!
